Men and Make-up

We, women, have been fighting for gender equality and gender equity within a patriarchal society since 1848 by an influential bravery woman named Elizabeth Candy Stanton.

I used to prompt to my mother and sisters that I want to be a boy and dress as a boy. It wasn’t just me there was a multitude of young girls and women stated exactly the same. Why?

We, women, always have a lack of opportunities. Due to society gender bias, I think it is better to have a life and live as a boy you have an access to anything. You can play sport. You can go out at night. However, I was wrong. Not all men satisfied with his fortunate life there are also rules limited how he should behave.

Men are dominant to be the head of the house. Men are physically stronger than women. Men don’t paint his nail. Men don’t use cosmetically. Therefore, men are not allowed to wear any make-up.

Men and makeup.

These two words are like friend and foe. More men are wearing makeup, yet the society gender stereotype perspectives on men’s appearance as ladylike aren’t agreeable.

A guy in Portsmouth, England, wore makeup to work and is manager requested him to remove it. “I was quite shocked. … Obviously, I’m not going to take off my makeup when all my other (female) colleagues are able to come to work as their fabulous selves,” he prompted. Nevertheless, there’s nothing he could do besides following.

Men’s stigmas with make-up

How do women and girls feel when they wear make-up? Did they face any discrimination? The answer is NO. Instead, society is encouraging more women to whiten their face with powder, mascara, cheek bronzer, and lipstick for parties, weddings, or daily outings. What about men? Are they permitted to do so?

“It’s time that both sexes had equal access to this incredibly powerful tool,” empathized Jake-Jamie Ward.

He shared his knowledge by doing tutorials on Youtube, in addition, to bring men and women to diminish their beauty stigma and create a better version of themselves. Ward stressed that 72 percent of his viewers were men, which means some MEN are also ingesting toward the beauty industry. Number of MEN are not only increased rapidly, but they are becoming the main target in this field.

Due to the Euromonitor research in 2015 South Korean men spent on an average $39 per year on skin cosmetic. No wonders. South Korean men’s skin is bright, smooth, and of course, attracted to the mountain of women in Asia and across the world.

Men are building up the herbs throughout the internet like social media, but most importantly being able to face the real world. Two good-looking boys in Cambodia realized that they love wearing makeup while they were 16 years old____  they play only with girls and love boy. Their future plan was to transform and look like a girl. As an organization mom of these kids, Theary truly disagree at first, however, later on, she supported the boys’ decision. Theary wishes the boy’s family and their surrounding people to accept and diminish the bias perspectives and give the boys their freedom.

In my opinion, freedom of wearing makeup is unacceptable in most part of Cambodia. People would call you a “gay”, no other words. The word gay is negatively demonstrated that you are a wild creature that doesn’t belong to any group. And people will never get used to your look. Yet, the literal meaning of the word gay only means a homosexual, mainly a man loves a man. Therefore, people should be open-minded and not criticise people for their look because it is their identity. Everyone can deny things but don’t ignore things because currently there are changes that are waited to approve or disapprove. It is up to ours, especially women, a decision whether we would allow men to have their happiness or step over the old path that women always been through.

Makeup and Me

Makeup makes women smile with confidence. On the other hand, men feel the pressure to look gorgeous against the surrounding manipulation. I come to realize how hard it is to hold back our thirst. I hate makeup. When I was 8 or 9 years old during my cousin’s wedding there was a free make-up offer for females. To make everyone happy I sat for five minutes and quickly off to the bathroom. I certainly erased all the make-over and be blank. And that’s who I wanted to be.

Some men and women are not like me and they should always be themselves. Wearing makeup isn’t just a mask for them, but it is a pill that can change an individual life. Men become more confident in front of their special person. Men become more self-esteemed. Men become who they wanted to be and how they look like by wearing these power tool.

It is time that family, friends, roommates, housemates and lastly the world to open the door and accept these enthusiastic men to be who they wanted to.
